Our services extend beyond tutoring. Our Tutoring Philosophy

Learning should be interesting and fun. It should simultaneously stimulate and satisfy curiosity. Effective tutoring should always focus on taking the student back to the basics. It should help the student to establish a firm foundation of basic concepts while helping the student to understand the material at hand. 

No Tutoring Contracts or Obligations

Sometimes people need to meet a tutor only once to help clear up a question or to prepare for a special exam. Sometimes people need to meet a tutor on a regular basis. Either way, we're here to help. We do not require any contracts at all. We just ask that you keep any appointments that you make or at least give us forewarning if you need to cancel. It's a courtesy thing.

Convenient Payments

All you need to do is to make a payment on the day of each session or you could pay ahead if you wish, preferably with our online payment system.  We accept cash, check, most major credit cards and PayPal payments. 

Online Tracking

We also offer an online system to help you keep track of tutoring sessions and your payments.

Our Story

As told by Tozer Tutor's founder, Brian Tozer

In high school, I struggled with math. I was the kid who sat in the back of the classroom and prayed the teacher would not call my name. In severe exasperation, one teacher yelled at me, "You're the worst student I've ever had in my 15 years of teaching."

Fast forward a few years. The same teacher offered me a teaching position at the high school where I graduated. Although I declined her offer to accept an actuarial position, I still had fulfilled my love for teaching as an adjunct instructor of mathematics at a community college.

I had also undertaken my first tutoring client in 1989 and have continued tutoring most of the time since.  Over the years, I have helped about 1,500 students with math.

What happened? Let's just say that I was blessed to meet some great tutors and to have an outstanding professor who went out of his way to explain concepts to me.

Yes, one-on-one help is that valuable. With individualized attention, a good tutor can diagnose barriers to learning, reprogram the mind, help to instill confidence, and teach the student how to think.

My personal strength as a tutor is that I can honestly relate to the students who are completely lost, frustrated, confused and even embarrassed. I understand their frustration and usually can figure out their barriers to learning in seconds. I know exactly how to communicate concepts to help students develop a deep understanding of the subject matter.

Demand for my tutoring services increased enough so that after 19 years of tutoring, I could no longer accept new clients. Then something interesting happened. I got a few calls for chemistry and other subjects that I do not tutor. After referring these students to another tutoring service, I decided to live my dream of running my own business and started Tozer Tutoring.

In one sense, Brian Tozer has been in the tutoring business for 19 years, but Tozer Tutoring is a new business with a lot of experience. As Tozer Tutoring grows, I'm being careful to select tutors in a wide variety of subjects who share my teaching philosophy.
